To visually extend Henri Bendels’ “interior street of shops” onto 57th Street, Janko Rasic Architects and Herbert Kashian designed a new transparent storefront. Two buildings are unified by a new cornice, the other cohesive force, a glass plane. Two porticos interrupt the plane- marking the intersection of the interior and exterior streets for pedestrians. A new lobby for 4 floors of converted gallery and office space above is created behind the glass plane by transforming a former service entrance into the main entrance.
