The Manitou School is a new private Pre-K through 8th grade school in the Hudson Valley housed in the historic Parrot House/Plumbush Inn & Restaurant. Janko Rasic Architects planned and designed the renovation, conversion and modernization while preserving the historical integrity of the 1860’s building which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A core objective of the renovation was to integrate the new and the old in order to create a warm, comfortable learning environment with an abundance of natural light. Other priorities were structural stabilization, lead paint abatement and ADA compliance. A new sprinkler system with holding tank and new mechanical systems with heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) were also installed. The project was completed on an aggressive, fast track schedule to ensure that school doors were open in time for the first day of classes.
